PLAYING THE MEMORY GAME - Francisco Lazos Carrasco

Picture
The rake I stepped on, the pain in my cheek,
Imbecilic fool that I am.  The time I fell into a hole,
Landing on a pipe that swelled my neck or
The time I was playing hide and seek and
Came crashing down from a tree, thumping the earth hard
With my back.  The day we went to the river
To shoot glass bottles and got chased in the
Levy by older boys; how scared we were as we ran.
The first time I had sex and how tall the girl I did it
With was.  The night a different girl I was with didn’t pick up
Her phone.  The morning when she confessed her betrayal
And how my knees buckled from the shock.
